Detective Steve Ainsworth of the Boulder Sheriff’s Office

Pueblo Police Sgt. James Olonia has worked 48 homicides since being assigned to Crimes Against Persons unit in 2008. He is a member of the Colorado Cold Case Review team and a Deputy Coroner in Pueblo. Sgt. Olonia will discuss a Cold Case from 1982 that resulted in a recent successful prosecution.
Detective Steve Ainsworth from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office is a talented investigator who will discuss the basics of Death Investigation. This event is hosted by the Cherokee Castle in Sedalia, and is limited to the first 100 guests. Please sign up for your reservation at: www.CherokeeRanch.orgLos Angeles, also known as Tinseltown, is where celebrities work, play and reside. Throughout time, the Los Angeles Coroner has been responsible for determining the cause and manner of death of very famous celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Karen Carpenter, Natalie Wood and John Belushi. The LA Coroner was thrust into the public spotlight in 2009 when Michael Jackson’s death caused a media frenzy. Numerous cameras and TV personnel waited outside the LA Coroner’s Office for the official word about the cause and manner of Michael’s death. Then Brittany Murphy died without a known cause of death, and not more than six months later…
Detective Ainsworth was so engaging that, by audience demand, he made a second appearance. Once again, the audience learned how a talented homicide investigator solved complex crimes, bring the perpetrator to justice, and closure for families.
Forensic Pathologist Leon Kelly of the El Paso County Coroner’s Office explained types of injuries and how his expertise has assisted law enforcement with solving numerous crimes. Doctor Kelly performs autopsies for numerous counties in Southern Colorado.Michael Burson, MD PhD is one of four forensic pathologists who were under contract to perform autopsies for the Douglas County Coroner’s Office from January 11, 2011 thru January 13, 2015 while Lora Thomas served as the Douglas County Coroner. Dr. Burson performed autopsies for numerous counties in Colorado and Wyoming, to include Larimer, Weld, Grand, Routt, Pueblo and Douglas. Dr. Burson has been adjudicated as an expert witness in eleven courts as his has testified in criminal cases. Of note, is a double homicide of two small children that occurred in Castle Rock in May of 2011. Dr. Burson’s testimony before the jury in the criminal trial for the children’s mother was of the highest quality, and resulted in a conviction of first degree murder. Lone Tree Police Chief Jeff Streeter worked for the Lakewood Police Department for 24 years before joining Lone Tree. One of his many assignments included the position where he investigated homicides. Chief Streeter spoke about the investigation of a missing person who had become the victim of serial killer Thomas Luther. Chief Streeter’s sharp investigation skills and compassion for the victim’s family were evident in his riveting presentation. Detective Jeff Nohr from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office presented on July 2, 2014 about a case that was believed to be a homicide. Cooperation between the Coroner’s office and a thorough on-scene investigation solved a complicated case. An innocent man was not charged!
Dr. Jim Caruso is a Forensic Pathologist who was appointed the Chief Medical Examiner for the City and County of Denver in 2013. Dr. Caruso is a retired Navy Officer who discussed his vast experiences which included investigating the deaths of the astronauts on the Challenger Space Shuttle as well as soldiers who lost their lives protesting our Freedom. Charlie McCormick, an Investigator with the 11th Judicial District, and former Denver Police Homicide Detective, discussed the unsolved deaths of two young women who disappeared on the same evening in January, 1982. Their bodies were found in different locations and at different times on Hoosier Pass. Do you have any information that will help solve these cases?
