Suicide Prevention
After Lora Thomas retired from the Colorado State Patrol, she researched over 6000 homicide and suicide deaths in Colorado from 2004-2010 for the National Violent Death Reporting System, a project sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and administered by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. Her passion for educating the public about the tragedy of suicide was born, and during her term in Office, Lora could tell you exactly how many individuals had been lost to suicide in Douglas County. Her goal was to reduce those deaths through education and cooperation with other stakeholders.
Lora Thomas was an active participant of the Douglas-Arapahoe Suicide Prevention Alliance, and at the “Night with the Coroner” events, over $4300 was raised for suicide prevention!
